REVIEW #11 – Jane and the Canterbury Tale

This is the eleventh and possibly last installment in the series. While I understand why it can’t go on, I know that just as Jane’s death left us wanting more of her work, so too, this series will leave us wishing to read more of Jane’s adventures.

The Jane and the Canterbury Tale is a look at families and the ties that bind and gag. Jane’s involvement in the investigation stems from the fact that her brother is the Magistrate and therefore at the center of the drama. Also, neighbors are inexorably tied to the matter and so it is all anyone can talk about.

We meet Jane’s niece Fanny, who goes on to become one of her aunt’s staunchest supporters and deftly manages Jane’s estate and legacy. We meet Fanny as a young woman, just going out in the world and I found her charming, just as Jane and all the young bucks of the neighborhood did.

The Pilgrim’s Way crossed a portion of Jane’s brother’s estate and the murders occur on or near that location. This is very interesting and gives the author an opportunity to include interesting quotes from Chaucer’s story. I studied The Canterbury Tales in college, so it’s nice to finally use that piece of my education!
