REVIEW #5 – Jane and the Stillroom Maid

The latest in the Stephanie Barrons’ Jane Austen mysteries finds our heroine travelling with her mother, sister and a very pompous clergyman cousin in the Peaks area of Derbyshire.  While there, Jane stumbles upon a body.  Of course.

This is one of my favorites in the series.  It’s got classic sleuthing, amusing characters and wonderful scenery, albeit the scenery is splattered with blood.

I liked Stillroom Maid because unlike our previous visit with Jane, where all the information came to her, this time out, she’s out stomping around gathering information, being a busybody and scandalizing her mother and sister by be alone in a carriage with Lord Harold.

And of course, the mystery itself is very interesting, with the who did it, why, the book and the red herrings.

A very fun read.
